Footballer who forced ex to eat paint sent back to prison over cruel tweets

A thug footballer given early release after being jailed for beating up his girlfriend has been sent back to prison for tweeting about his crime.

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that the former Boston United striker and Lincoln City trainee Reece Thompson, who had been released early, has now been recalled to serve the rest of his sentence for assault and GBH of his former partner Danielle Thomas.

Thompson, 26, pleaded guilty and was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court on April 3 after he subjected Danielle Thomas, 33, to a horrific three-day ordeal in which she suffered a broken jaw and severe bruising.

He was jailed for 40 months and received a 10-year restraining order after Ms Thompson was beaten with an iron bar, forced to eat paint and smashed over the head with two mirrors by the player, the court heard.

Now despite being given early release for GBH and assault, he has been recalled just a month into his release.

It came after he sent out a series of tweets about his crime and as making grass jokes about reignite his career.

It is believed the decision to recall him related to a tweet asking if there were any clubs needing “a few goals banging in”, report HullLive.

He also gave an interview with The Sun about his quest to find a new club.

In his interview with the Sun, he said: “I love playing football it’s my life. I’ve made a mistake and been punished for it.

“I accept people will have their own opinions about me and they are entitled to that opinion.

“But the opinion of others don’t bother me in the slightest. The only opinion that’s matters to me is my own opinion.

“Everyone else is irrelevant in my eyes.

“All these people showing hate towards me calling me a scumbag will only drive me and motivate me even more to try and make a comeback and prove people wrong.

“I have no doubt in my mind I will make a comeback.”

He also responded to a tweet from a fan, appearing to reference details of his crimes.

The fan wrote: “I’ve been redecorating the back bedroom and spilt some paint.

“Do I hit the Mrs with an iron bar & make her lick it up or just use a cloth?”

Thompson replied with a smiling face and thumbs up emoji and wrote: “Pretty sure from post examination no paint or other substances were found in the persons stomach/system.

“So that rules the paint part out.”

Thompson had signed to play for Mickleover Sports FC in the BetVictor Northern Premier Division since making his appeal to find a new club.

Ms Thomas said she feared for her life when she suffered a broken jaw and severe bruising at the hands of Thompson during a three-day ordeal.

She previously told Lincolnshire Live: “Reece repeatedly hit me.

“He hit me with an iron bar, broke my jaw and smashed a mirror over my head.

“I was made to lick paint up off the floor and then he smashed another mirror over my head.

“It was when he picked up the second mirror that I thought I was going to die, I screamed for him to stop or he would kill me.

“He told me to get my arms down and take the beating like a real person.”
