Six polytechnics are currently competing in the zonal elimination stage ahead of this year’s Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association (NIPOGA) currently going on at the Rufus Giwa Sports Complex, Ondo state.
This year’s edition which is the 20th edition will be staged in Ilorin the Kwara state capital.
Confirming this to newsmen, Secretary General, Games Association for NIPOGA, Dr Agboola Akinbode, said the games involved for the elimination stages are ball games, racket games and few indoor games.
The games are Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Badminton, Chess and Scramble.
The participating teams are the Polytechnic Ibadan, Ire, Ede, Oke-Ogun, Kogi Poly, Esa Oke and hosts, Rufus Giwa Poly.
Dr Akinbode further stressed that the essence of the games is to discover talents, exchange ideas academically, engaged the students meaningfully and help the institutions to develop their facilities.
Reacting, Deputy Rector, RUGIPO, Engineer Alagha Adelanka, said Rufus Giwa Polytechnic has provided security for participating teams and will collaborate with partners to repair sports facilities in the institution ahead of the 2020 NIPOGA games which will be hosted by the polytechnic.
