Egypt star Mohamed Salah was subject to a new discriminatory incident in England after he a series of racist tweets were directed towards him by a fan claimed to be belonging to Liverpool’s city rivals Everton.
With there seemingly being a rise in racist incidents in English football in recent years, it is sadly of little surprise that the most prominent Arab player in the Premier League would suffer racist abuse.
This incident comes as the latest of a number of racist incidents after he was subject to other unpleasant abuse from Chelsea and West Ham fans on previous occasions.
Everton have released a strong statement to condemn such disgraceful acts and also affirmed they are in contact with the related authorities to look into the incident.
“Everton condemns in the strongest terms any kind of racism. We have shared the material with the appropriate authorities and are looking into the matter further to understand if the Twitter user in question is known to the Club in any way,” a club’s spokesman said.
In the same context, Merseyside Police announce that an investigation is underway to track the person behind the hateful messages towards Salah.
” Hate crime in any guise will not be tolerated and those who use the Internet to target others… need to understand that they are not beyond the law,” Merseyside Police stated.
