Akinwunmi, Ekeji rate Eagles high to win Egypt 2019

The First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, has rated the Super Eagles high to emerge the eventual winners of the Egypt 2019 Nations Cup.

Akinwunmi, said the first thing the Eagles must do, is to come out of group B that has Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar as Eagles’ opponents, as nothing, but the group winners.

He said: “This is not premised solely on our pedigree but also on the recent form of the Super Eagles team, the quality of the players with majority making first team football in Europe, the competition for places and our planned top notch preparation for the tournament.

“With all these, I think the Eagles should aim to win the tournament and I humbly believe that we can do so.”

In a related development, the former Director General of the National Sports Commission, Chief Patrick Ekeji, said in an interview conducted from his base in Imo state, that, for the Egypt 2019 Nations Cup, the Super Eagles of Nigeria is undoubtedly the team to beat in the group.

The former national team defender and chief coach noted that, the reactions of the Super Eagles’ manager, Gernot Rohr, after the draws were conducted, is not going to take things for granted.

“I know Gernot Rohr will draw his lessons from his past experiences in this same competition and for sure he has a point to prove with respect to AFCON. I wish us best of luck.”
