Man Utd offers Allegri £7.9m contract to replace Mourinho

MANCHESTER UNITED tabled a concrete proposal for Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, it has been claimed.

Reports in Italy earlier today suggested Old Trafford bosses have got in touch with Allegri’s representatives as they search for potential replacements for under-fire Jose Mourinho.

And now CalcioMercato claim to have unearthed fresh information concerning a contract offer to the Italian tactician.

Manchester United reportedly offered Allegri a three-year contract worth £7.9m per season (€9m).

A £175m (€200m) transfer budget to overhaul Mourinho’s squad was also advanced to the 51-year-old.

According to CalcioMercato, Allegri is flattered by the proposal from the Premier League giants.

He reportedly informed United that they are his favoured club to manage after Juventus.

Allegri is under contract with the Old Lady until the summer of 2020.

He could depart the Serie A giants at the end of the season if they manage to win the Champions League.

Allegri has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Juventus since taking charge in 2014.

The 51-year-old has won four Serie A and Coppa Italia titles on the spin, and reached two Champions League finals.

The Old Lady are desperate to land European’s football top prize for the first time 1996.

Cristiano Ronaldo was recruited from Real Madrid in a blockbuster summer deal in an attempt to win the competition.

Mourinho appears to be on borrowed time at Old Trafford as a result of their disappointing start to the season.

Reports in Italy suggest Old Trafford bosses have been in contact with the Juventus manager’s representatives.

According to CalcioMercato, Manchester United bosses believe Allegri is the ideal manager to kick off a new era.

And it is claimed he has responded positively to their overtures.

Mourinho appears to be on the brink at Old Trafford, despite the 3-2 win over Newcastle before the international break easing some of the pressure.

Allegri is a serial winner, having guided Juventus to four consecutive Serie A and Coppa Italia triumphs.

And some supporters on Twitter believe the 51-year-old Italian would be a dream successor to Mourinho.

One fan wrote: “Best news I’ve heard about @ManUtd in a while. Perfect decision.”

A second said: “Allegri is technically a far superior manager to Jose.”

While another added: “If Jose Mourinho leaves, then Allegri and Simeone should be top of Utd list.”

Mourinho, however, retains the support of a number of fans and some appear to be against the potential appointment of Allegri.

One supporter said: “No thanks!”

Another moaned: “Not another pragmatic coach. I’d take Mou all day over him. No better then what we have. We got a winner.”

While a third added: “Man Allegri is a good coach but we don’t need another defensive coach at Old Trafford, we clearly don’t match at all.”
