FUBS honours Akinwunmi, Soname, Orbih with humanitarian awards

First vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi and 9jaBet boss, Honourable Kunle Soname have been bestowed the Philanthropy and Humanitarian Service awards by a prominent sports Whatsapp group in Nigeria, Family United by Sport (FUBS).

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick received the Achievers Merit Award while five Sports Federation Presidents, Hon Daniel Igali (Wrestling), Sam Ocheho (Handball), Boye Oyerinde (Squash), Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida (Basketball) and Barrister Frank Orbih (Badminton) received the Outstanding Leadership awards.

Barr Akinwumi who doubles as the Lagos State Football Association chairman was given the prestigious accolade in addition to a cheque of N500,000. 00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only) by FUBS for his service to youths and his efforts towards ensuring that every child gets educated.

The short award ceremony took place at the closing ceremony of the Lagos state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Week at the Legacy pitch of the national stadium in Lagos.

An overwhelmed president of the Nigeria Badminton Federation, Francis Obih,  said after receiving his award that: I wish to sincerely express my gratitude to FUBS for the Outstanding Leadership Award that I was honoured with.

“Unfortunately I was in Abuja and couldn’t make it back to personally received this award. This Award means a lot to me because it is the first time I am being honoured as President of BFN and it has come at a time I was getting discouraged and frustrated by the system.

“This will surely reenergise and motivate me to face the task of repositioning Badminton in Nigeria for sustainable growth. With this Award, I will double my efforts and rededicate myself to promoting the growth of Badminton in Nigeria. Thank you very much. God bless you all.”
