AJ Styles admits fears he would NEVER get to wrestle for WWE

WWE champ AJ Styles revealed he feared he would never get to the wrestle for the firm – assuming “we just weren’t a fit”.

Styles – the reigning WWE Champion – said he learnt to “live with it” when he wrestling on the independent scene and for rival promotions.

WWE fans were also convinced Styles would never get to wrestle for the company, until he made his debut back in 2016.

The Phenomenal One is regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers in the world – and famously turned down a WWE contract in 2002 to continue forging his own legacy away from the media empire.

SmackDown Live’s top star Styles was chatting to Daily Star Online at the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida, for the launch of new game WWE 2K19.

Styles added he was happy he was wrong about signing for WWE as the champion enters his 322nd day holding the title.

During a recent interview with Title Match Wrestling, WWE Champion AJ Styles took the opportunity to discuss a number of different topics, one of those being the reason why he left Impact Wrestling to join New Japan Pro Wrestling, then WWE.

Styles revealed that the reason had to do with Impact Wrestling cutting his pay by over 60%, and also discussed why the move wasn’t fair to his family.

Here is what Styles had to say:

”I think that saying 60% is being generous, to be honest with you. That’s kinda crazy  when that’s the first offer you know like, ‘wait what! That doesn’t make any sense! I’ve worked here for 11 years and hard for 11 years. I haven’t gotten less popular here in TNA, in fact gotten more popular, especially in the last year, so I don’t know what’s going on.’ I am a family man. That’s my job, and my job is to take care of them. You don’t know how much I made, or how less I made. But if you are going to take a pay cut at your job, I’m gonna take a pay cut at my job. But think about that! Because you’ve got mouths to feed.”
