WGB/Lagos FA Cup enter semis, as MFM battles 36 Lions

With the conclusion of the last quarter final match between Smart City Football Club and Spartans football club which ended 4 goals to nothing in favour of Smart City FC.
The semi finals of the 2017/2018 WGB/Lagos FA Cup will hold on Thursday with the defending champions, MFM FC taking on Nationwide League One side, 36 Lion Football Club in the first semi final match.
While former champions, First Bank FC of Lagos confronts Smart City FC for a place in the finals that would be played on Saturday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium, Agege.
First Bank FC defeated Collins Edwin Sports Club 3-0 in the quarter finals stage, while 36 Lions stopped B. Angels FC 4-3 penalties after goalless draw at the end of the regulation time.
According to the Chairman, Technical Committee of the Lagos State FA, Dotun Coker, the semi final games promises to be highly entertaining and exciting given the pedigree of the clubs in the semi-finals.
He informed that the Lagos FA Cup compettion has really lived up to its expectations with the quality of games played so far. He noted that, the tournament that kicked-off on the May 1, 2018 with 87 men’s clubs have seen so many exciting matches and lots of talented players who in the next few years should be making waves at the national and international levels.
Coker also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of some of the clubs discipline discipline, adding that, except for few incidences, the competition has been very successful so far so good.
Dotun Coker stated: “We have recorded a very successful competition with many exciting matches and amazing goals scored, hence we are looking forward to highly entertaining games in the Semi-finals and final matches.”
Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the Women’s category took place today at the Teslim Balogun Stadium with defending champions, FC Robo defeating Victory Queens 2-1 to zoom into the final against Young Talents 99 FC that defeated Victory Queens FC 2-0 in the second semi final, to set up the same final game last year. It was FC Robo versus Young Talents 99 in last year’s final, it is going to be the same this year. The final will be played on Saturday.
The two semi finals in the men’s category will also be played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Thursday, while both the men’s and the women’s finals hold on Saturday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium, Agege.
