The president of the CMS Grammar School 159th Founder’s Day Celebration, Mr. Adedapo Fashanu, has stated that, this year’s celebration will be grand and unique especially with the theme of the event, “Reinforcing the Heritage of Excellence.”
Fashanu stated that, the 159th Founder’s Day celebration which started with the Community Hymn Singing at the Catheral Church of Christ, Marina on May 20, would be more interesting than that of the previous years.
“The next programme would be holding on Monday June 4, with the Speech and Prize Giving Day at the Venerable B.A Adelaja Hall and the Novelty match between the 1993 set and the present school team slated for the CMS Sports Ground.”
Fashanu, stated at a packed press conference that, “this year’s luncheon will be under the distinguished chairmanship of Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, and the former Attorney General and the Minister of Justice as well as former Minister of Defence, whilst the special guest of honour would be Rear Admiral Taiwo Odedina (rtd) and the Father of the Day is Mr. Cornelius Taiwo Olaomo, all of whom are old CMS Grammarians.
He added that, there would also be celebrations in the various chapters of the old Grammarrians’ Society in Ibadan, Abuja, the United Kingdom as well as the United States of America on different dates.
“We are indeed celebrating the contributions of old CMS Grammarians to the development of our great school between the last founder’s day celebrations in 2017 and I am very proud to announce that CMS Grammar School now has an Olympic sized swimming pool with a state of the art spectators stand within its premises, made possible by Elder statesman, Folarin Coker as well as Mr. Modupe and Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija.
“Our school has now become the first heritage school to own an Olympic sized swimming pool which is known as Folarin Coker Swimming Academy and which would however be available for the use of other secondary schools that may be interested.
“I am delighted to inform you that the following Old Grammarians’ Society items and projects would be dedicated and commissioned on June 6, 2018: “Six boxes of numerous books as well as overhead projectors donated by Professor Dele Adefeso of the PGS Americas. Carport canopy over the spectators stand of the Folarin Coker Swimming Academy donated by the 1984 Class Set as a total cost of N800,000.”
Another project that would be dedicated is the Renovation of the Home Economics Laboratory and Fine Arts Studio by the 1979 to 1981 Class set and the ultra modern Technical Drawing Room at a cost of N2million by the 1978/80 Class Set.
Another project for dedication is the air conditioning and provision of a 100 KVA generator, bore hole as well as a water tank for the Venerable B.A Adelaja Hall which is the school hall at a total cost of N11 million by the Old Grammarians Society.
The Principal of the CMS Grammar School, Olaoluwa Adeyemi, said at the media event to herald the grand 159th Founder’s Day celebration held in the conference room of the Principal’s office complex, that, he thank God for the vision of the founder Herbert Babington Macaulay. “The school is blessed with great human capital. The laboratory that would be dedicated is undoubtedly the best in the country. The officials who came to reassess the laboratory gave us 84 percent pass mark, which stand us out as the best so far. We give thanks to our old students, their contributions have been very valuable over the years.
“The school intends to have collaborations with institutions in the United Kingdom for educational development exchange programmes. We hope this materializes.
After the June 6 plethora of events with the dedication of school projects, thanksgiving service, student’s feast and Founder’s Day luncheon, the next event would be the Career Talk on June 8, 2018. On June 9, it would be the Annual General Meeting of the school, while the Thanksgiving Service for Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun branches of the old student association takes centre stage at the All Souls Anglican Church, Bodija, Ibadan on June 10, 2018.
On June 17, 2018, the Abuja zone of the Old Student Association would have their thanksgiving at the All Saints Anglican Church, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, while the celebration of the United Kingdom chapter has been fixed to hold on June 16, 2018 at the St. John Evangelist Church, Pemberton Gardens. London.
The 159th CMS Grammar School Founder’s Day Celebration would be concluded with the CMS OGS Americas NOLA Conference Convention at the JW Marriot in New Orleans, United States of America from July 12 to 15, 2018.
