NWPL: Nasarawa Amazons beat Sunshine Queens in Lafia

Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia in the Matchday 4 of the Nigeria Women Premier League defeated Sunshine Queens FC of  Akure 1-0 to move to the number one spot of the abridged women league with 10points

Super Falcons striker, Anam Imo, scored from the spot to give the home team the maximum points in the 82nd minute, a goal that calmed the nerves of Amazons head coach, Christopher Danjuma.

The visitors displayed good soccer tactics in the entire duration. Sunshine Queens will next week host FC Robo billed for the Ondo State Sports Complex.

Sunshine Queens Head Coach, Wemimo Mathew, in her post match interview commended the fighting spirit of her girls urging them not to be discouraged by the slim loss to the Amazons.

She said: “It was a game we ought to have won or at least picked a point but we all knew what transpired, my girls worked hard, fought hard but it was sad the result we got didnt reflect our efforts.”

The Super Falcons assistant coach however urged league authorities to help check the excesses of match officials and curb the must-win-at-home syndrome which she believed won’t help the league develop.

“The league authorities have recorded successes in some areas but more efforts are still required to achieve more, I want to urge everyone who really wants the best of the women league to support and promote fair officiating at all levels”

Sunshine Queens Fc are now second on the league table with 7 points from 4 matches.
