Ferdinand admits Liverpool are ‘frightening’

Rio Ferdinand admits, “as a Manchester United fan”, that it is “frightening” what Liverpool are capable of.

Liverpool reached the Champions League final on Wednesday after holding on to beat Roma 7-6 on aggregate in their semi-final.

The Reds lost 4-2 on the night – read 16 Conclusions – but have every chance of ending Real Madrid’s European dominance.

Former United defender Ferdinand, who won the Champions League in 2008, fears Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“This is a great achievement. It’s a very inexperienced squad that they’ve assembled and they’ve managed to get this far,” he told BT Sport.

“This is very much down to Klopp and his recruitment and the way he’s got these guys believing in the way he wants to play. The brand of football they’re playing is so exciting to watch.

“It’s great to see but as a Manchester United fan and ex-Man United player, it’s frightening because this could be the start of something special.

“Real Madrid, they’ll be sitting there and going ‘Woah, we have to be on it.’

“If they’re not on it fully and they’re going to be complacent because they’re the favourites – because history suggests they should be favourites – they could come unstuck.”
